Telangana High Court ordered Waqf Board to evict encroachers in 4 months

On Tuesday, Telangana High Court Division Bench led by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili ordered the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Telangana Waqf Board to take immediate measures to clear encroachments on Waqf lands admeasuring 5,117 guntas in Survey Numbers 6 and 7 of Mansoorabad village, Saroornagar Mandal, RR district in the span of four months.

The Bench was hearing a public interest lawsuit filed by SK Jahangir Pasha of Ramanthapur, Hyderabad, who was upset by the Waqf employees’ lack of interest in eradicating unlawful encroachments on Waqf property, despite the petitioner giving complaints to the Waqf CEO.

Though the standing counsel for the Waqf Board notified the court that the appropriate steps to clear the encroachments had been taken in accordance with Sections 54 and 55 of the Waqf Act, the Bench ordered the Board’s chairman to take steps to protect the Waqf property by removing the encroachers in the span of four months.

Waqf activists protest against Supreme Court’s ruling on Manikonda Waqf land

In other news, Muslim civil society groups protested against the Supreme Court’s decision on the Manikonda Waqf property parcel of 1654.32 acres, which the supreme court said belongs to the Telangana government.

Branding the loss of the Waqf property as a “major scam” a few days after the Supreme Court gave a decision on the Manikonda Jagir lands dispute, activists, backed by political groups such as the BSP, decided to come together to put pressure on the state government over the issue.  Activists argue that the state government promised to tackle the problem previously.

During a conference held on the subject, individuals from several organizations agreed to form a 10-member committee, which would include at least five advocates, to make submissions to the government.
