Telangana High Court to take action against erring officials for embezzlement of 40 lakh

A two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court, comprised of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavali, directed the State Government to take disciplinary action and initiate criminal proceedings against the erring officials associated with the embezzlement of 40 lakh rupees allotted by the Central Government to Souchalaya funds.

The panel was hearing a PIL filed by M Sekhar Reddya challenging the said embezzlement by the Sarpanch, Panchayat Secretary and Bill Collector of Narsingi Village in Medak District.

The petitioner claimed that the funds were transferred to the officials’ personal accounts and that they did not carry out any development activity such as building cement roads or sewerage pipelines.

The Additional Director General of Police Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau filed an affidavit noting that action is being initiated against the erring officials in the matter, which the panel asked to be completed as soon as possible.

In other news, the Telangana High Court Justice K Lakshman on Monday ordered Commissioner of Police M Stephen Ravindra to launch a disciplinary investigation into erring police officials for alleged harassment of an accused person in a cheating case.

The court ordered that action be taken against police officers, including the Station House Officer of Bachupally, the investigating officer, the Circle Inspector of SOT Narsingi, Shiv Prasad, and that they be punished in accordance with the disciplinary rules, within four weeks.

The Commissioner was present in court due to a court order to attend in person. The Judge was hearing a writ case filed by T Prabhakar, who claimed that the police had committed crimes against him and his family.

The petitioner is accused of deception. He claimed that the Circle Inspector SOT summoned his son to the police station, slapped, assaulted, and stripped him of his shirt and pants, and then obtained cheques from him.

Previously, the complaint of the petitioner was delegated to the Assistant Commissioner of Police by the Commissioner of Police to conduct an investigation.
