Telangana: Kanti Velugu could screen 2 crore people by June 15

More than 1.54 crore people in the state have had their eyes tested, and over 21.85 lakh people have received spectacles as part of the State government’s ambitious Kanti Velugu program, which aims to eliminate controllable blindness in the state. According to officials, if the scheme is implemented and people participate at the same rate, over 2 crore people can be screened by June 15.

Officials have said that the Telangana government’s Kanti Velugu program is still going strong, with 1,54,58,982 people having their eyes tested to date. Reading glasses were distributed to 21,85,945 people. The program has so far been completed in 11,862 Gram Panchayat Wards and 3,495 Municipal Wards.

On August 15, 2018, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao launched the first phase in Medak district to correct vision defects. The program lasted eight months. 1.50 crore people were given free eye examinations. 50 lakh spectacles have been distributed. In the same way, on January 18th, the Chief Minister launched the second phase of the Kanti Velugu program in Khammam.

It is proceeding successfully in accordance with the intended goal. In 84 working days, 92.75 percent of people in the state received eye exams. The government has decided to complete all eye tests in the state within 100 working days. For monitoring, the government has established quality control teams at the state and district levels. The Medical officials expressed the opinion that if the eye tests program continues in this way, there is a possibility of the figure going beyond 2 crore people.
