Telangana: Rs 15 crore allocated for Bonalu celebrations by state govt

In Hyderabad, Bonalu will be celebrated in grand style thanks to a Rs 15 crore allocation from the state government. Telangana Minister of Animal Husbandry Srinivas Yadav announced on Monday that all temple committees in the twin cities must apply for financial assistance.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao instructed officials to provide Rs 15 crore financial assistance for the Bonalu celebrations to be held between July 17 and 24 in Secunderabad and Hyderabad, the minister said at a meeting at Masab Tank.

Srinivas Yadav reviewed the arrangements for the celebrations to be held in Secunderabad on July 17 and Hyderabad on July 24 with Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy and Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali.

Government officials have decided to assist temple management financially before the celebrations begin. Thus, officials and temple management should take measures, the Minister said.

A grand Bonalu celebration has been mandatory since Telangana State’s formation, thanks to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. With the government’s generous allocation, this year’s festivities will be grand as well.

In addition to temples under the Endowments Department, financial assistance will be extended to private temples, the Minister said, adding that funds were also extended to the Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi.

All prominent temples in Hyderabad will receive Pattu Vasthrams on behalf of the government. Over 500 artists will perform live during the procession on July 25 at Charminar.

3D mapping has been carried out at Damayanthi temple, Delhi Darwaza, Golconda, Ravindra Bharathi, Katta Maisamma Temple, Indira Park, and Mahankali temple in Secunderabad and Chilkalguda.

Due to the belief that the goddess would protect her people from seasonal diseases during the monsoon season, the festival assumes significance for the people that celebrate it. Each year, thousands of devotees participate in the festival by offering Bonam.
