Telangana Sailors grab last minute Bonanza

Hyderabad: Local girl Majji Lalitha, daughter of kiln brick labourer, bounced back on the final day to win the Telangana gold and sub-junior trophy but also bagged the silver in the Open fleet to be placed in second position behind winner Chunnu Kumar of Karnataka in the Telangana State Regatta championship that concluded here on Wednesday.

Lalitha was declared the Telangana State Sailing Sub Junior Champion. Her father is a brick layer from Secunderabad and both parents are very proud of their daughters achievements at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

Tungara Mahboobee dropped to second position while Lakshmi Nookarathnam had to be satisfied with bronze. All the three medallists are from Marredpally Girls Government School.

Uma Chauhan of Madhya Pradesh made up for early losses and finished on top in the Open and a Bronze overall.

Kankatla Gautham won the Telangana Open and the State trophy in the junior class. Gautham finished eighth at the Asian trials and seventh at the Hyderabad Sailing Week and has dramatically rose to the top go the Indian Junior fleet given that all the top sailors are at the Telangana State Regatta. Gautham was declared the Telangana State Junior Sailing Champion.

Meanwhile, Rishab Nayar, captured a silver against Satish Yadav in the Open and a gold in the State Regatta.

“I am very proud of all my wards as they pushed themselves to the extreme on the last day to grab victory from what would have otherwise been a good podium finishes to an over crowding of the podium”, said Suheim Sheikh, the coach of all the winners from Telangana and President of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad.

Juniors: Kankatla Goutham (29), Sanjay Reddy (47), T Ajay (52)
