Telangana sees the greatest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases

On Wednesday Telangana reported 3,018 new COVID-19 cases, which took the state’s tally to 1,11,688. To be known as the biggest single-day spike.

Officials also said that the death toll also rose to 780 as 10 more people surrender their lives to the virus in the last 24 hours.

This is the first time since March after the breakout of the pandemic that over 3,000 new cases registered in a day by the state. It came the next day after Telangana saw the biggest jump of 2,579 new COVID-19 cases.

During the last 24 hours, 61,040 tests had been conducted by the state, breaking the record of 52,933 tests of the previous day. The number of cases increased with the increasing number of tests.

10,82,094 is the total number of tests done so far, According to a media bulletin issued from the office of the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare.

Under the criticism from various quarters for its poor testing, The daily number of tests was doubled by the government of Telangana. Over 1.90 lakh tests were conducted during the last four days.

A total of 31 private and 16 laboratories are conducting RTPCR/TRUENAT/CBNAAT types of tests while there are, 1,076 rapid antigen test centers. Although, the authorities have not been providing a breakup of the type of tests conducted.

The samples tested per million population mounted to 29,146 against a day by day testing objective of 5,600 every day according to the World Health Organization (WHO) benchmark of 140 for each million every day. The results of 1,176 samples were anticipated.

The case fatality rate in the state came down to 0.69% against the national average of 1.84%. 53.87% had the co-occurring out of the total fatalities, the health official said.

The number of cases in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) spiked on Wednesday with the expansion in overall numbers. The state capital detailed 475 cases against 295 the earlier day. MedchalMalkajgiri and Rangareddy region adjoining GHMC revealed 204 and 247 new cases individually. Sangareddy, another locale circumscribing the state capital, saw 88 new cases.

Outside the GHMC and encompassing areas, Nalgonda was the worst affected district with 190 new cases followed by Khammam with 161 cases, Warangal Urban with 139 cases, Nizamabad with 136 cases, and Karimnagar 127 cases. Jagtiyal announced 100 new diseases, BhadradriKothagudem 95, Siddipet 88, Peddapalli 85, and Mahabubabad 60.

During the most recent 24 hours, 1,060 individuals recouped from COVID, taking the absolute number of recuperations to 85,223. The state’s recuperation rate remains at 76.30 percent against the public normal of 75.92 percent.

The total number of active cases stands at 25,685 also including 19,113 in institutional/home isolation.

The COVID positive details showed that according to the age-wise 65.3% of those who tested positive were in the age group of 21-50 years. Describing that this age group can be easily affected, the authorities have requested them not to go out unless it is necessary. They were encouraged to carefully practice safety measures like wearing face masks and keep up physical distancing.

Among COVID positive cases, 24.71 percent are over 51 years old. Around 10 percent were matured under 20 years.

35.59 percent of those tested positive were female, while the staying 64.41 percent were male the official mentioned.

As per the media announcement, out of 20,396 beds in the administration run medical clinics, 17,958 beds were empty.
