Telangana soon to witness decision on lockdown, closure of schools, theatres

With the increasing number of covid-19 cases in the state, the Telangana government is likely to announce a decision on a lockdown across the region starting this weekend. Schools and colleges are also expected to be shut by the government in view of the shockingly rising infections.

As the national lockdown marks its first anniversary today, a second lockdown at the state level is on the cards as Hyderabad registered the highest daily-spike of this year. 91 new cases were reported today within the GHMC limits while 337 were recorded in total in the state over the last 24 hours along with 2 deaths.

Theatres and other busy public places too are likely to get closed or function with a set of restrictions to lower the covid count that increased suddenly.

As such, Chief Minister KCR is going to organize a high-level meeting with top officials to discuss the same. The expected action to be taken during this meeting is a partial lockdown with 3 days of a week in lockdown and daily night curfews all over the state.

The move gained weight after 2 more clusters of the virus were found in schools in Telangana. Since educational institutions started functioning again with the permission of the state government, many new cases are getting registered from these schools and colleges.

On Friday, officials said that 22 boarding students from a government ST boys hostel and 17 girls from a social welfare residential school situated in Jagtial were found with the virus.

92 students and staff of the boys’ hostel were tested and reports of 22 students and 2 staff members came back positive. All were asymptomatic and shifted to quarantine centres. The negative tested students were sent home with proper transportation services. Medical and general provisions are being given to those in quarantine, the official release said.

As for the Jagtial town school, 31 students- all from 8th-10th grades- complained of fever and cough today. They were tested immediately and 17 girls were found to be positive for covid-19, a health official said.

Previously, Mancherial’s girls’ school and another residential school of Kamareddy witnessed many cases of the virus.

With every state announcing their own agendas and implementing the same to curb the growing spread of the virus, Telangana, too, is expected to take a decision on the front.
