Telangana: State govt urges people to be cautious against seasonal diseases

The state government has advised residents to take certain precautions in order to avoid or stop the spread of seasonal diseases and Covid infections.

The Telangana government on Thursday directed the health department to be on high alert in order to combat the twin threats of seasonal illnesses and the increasing number of daily Covid-19 infections and urged people to be extremely cautious in the coming weeks.

In most districts, the persistent rains have triggered a variety of seasonal ailments such as dengue, malaria, and Acute Diarrhoea Diseases (ADDs). In addition to an increase in seasonal illnesses, almost all major cities are now experiencing an increase in Covid-19 infections.

Only three districts, including GHMC, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri, were experiencing an increase in Covid infections a week ago. However, daily Covid-19 infections have been increasing in other districts such as Warangal, Sangareddy, Peddapalli, Siddipet, Nalgonda, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mahabubnagar, and Karimnagar in recent days.

According to the most recent genome sequencing data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium, the increase in Covid-19 daily infections in Telangana is also reflected in the number of cases of the new Omicron variant (B.A 2.75), which has risen to ten (INSACOG).

T Harish Rao, Health Minister, directed the health department to organize health camps for a few more weeks during a review meeting on seasonal diseases and Covid-19 infections.

The State government has issued precautions such as maintaining complete hygiene while eating, treating drinking water with a chlorine tablet, drinking lukewarm water at regular intervals, keeping food items covered and taking freshly cooked items only, not storing food items, drinking ORS regularly, and washing hands properly before eating.
