Telangana Tops Cybercrime Cases, Sees Overall Increase in 2022: NCRB

Telangana witnessed a surge in overall recorded cases in 2022, according to the National Crime Records Bureau’s ‘Crime in India’ report. The state leads in cybercrime, contributing over 23% of such cases nationwide. Cybercrime in Telangana spiked by 48%, reaching 15,297 cases in 2022.

Nationally, cybercrime cases rose by 24.4%, totaling 65,893 in 2022 compared to 52,974 in the previous year. Despite the overall increase, there was an improvement in certain areas. Cases involving minors, categorized as Juveniles in Conflict with the Law, showed a decline in Telangana from 1,352 cases in 2019 to 1,152 in 2021. Hyderabad also witnessed a reduction from 350 cases in 2019 to 197 in 2021.

Overall crime cases in the state rose to 1,65,830 in 2022, up from 1,58,809 in 2021 and 1,47,504 in 2020. Specific incidents included 7,807 fatal accidents, 11 deaths due to medical negligence, 685 cases of sexual harassment, 814 rapes, and 36 attempted rapes in 2022.

Telangana reported 28 political riots, with 1,555 cases of disobedience by public servants. Hyderabad saw an increase in SSL crimes, totaling 23,183 in 2022, compared to 20,142 in 2021 and 18,055 in 2020.

Other recorded cases included 14,541 instances of rash driving with 17,300 victims, 9,996 cases of cruelty by husbands, 264 fake news cases, and 3,596 cases of criminal intimidation.
