Telangana: Two People Killed During Demolition of Old Building in Warangal

An accident during the demolition of an old building in Warangal, Telangana, on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two workers and two others being injured.

A structure was being demolished in the Charbowli area of the town when the incident took place. According to police, part of the structure fell on the workers, burying them under debris.

Police and municipal employees joined the rescue operation along with other workers on the site. There were two bodies pulled from the debris.

Two other workers were taken to MGM Hospital after sustaining injuries.

The tragedy is being attributed to the negligence of some of the demolition workers. An investigation has been ordered by the municipal authorities.

A month ago, a two-story building had also collapsed in Yadagirigutta town in Telangana’s Yadadri-Bhongir district killing at least four people.

The neighbouring building caved in suddenly at Sriramnagar colony on the main road that leads to Yadagirigutta’s famed Lord Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, according to an official at Yadagirigutta police station.

Still, two families reside on the backside of the building, while two shops are in the front. A police official said that the collapse injured people inside the shops as well as on the street.

Despite the fact that four of the deceased were recovered, the injured were taken to a hospital in the Bhongir area, and two of them are said to be in critical condition.

To take precautions for the monsoon season, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a special demolition drive. The city has demolished 22 dilapidated structures within two days, and sealed 4 structurally unsound structures.

In addition to the caution notices posted on sealed structures, dilapidated buildings were issued demolition/repair notices.
