Telangana: Winter season to start from Nov 3 as monsoon set to withdraw

The southwest monsoon may finally begin to withdraw from the state, including Hyderabad, over the weekend, signaling the end of a four-month journey that began in June, according to the India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad (IMD-H) on Wednesday.

With the end of the monsoon season approaching, the state capital may experience a chill in the air. Temperatures are expected to begin dropping in early November, according to Dr. A Sravani, scientist-C, IMD-H.

“The southwest monsoon will withdraw from all over the State including Hyderabad after three days. Till Saturday, light to moderate rains will hit the city. The winter season will make its presence felt from November 3,” the official stated.

The city typically experiences mild winter from November to January, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS). In January 2015, the lowest minimum temperature of 6.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at Marredpally.

“The lowest minimum temperatures are observed mainly over north and northeast districts of the State and south and southeast districts are warmer during the season,” the Weather Department said in a report.

The state capital’s normal date for reporting monsoon withdrawal is October 15. However, till Wednesday, Hyderabad was subjected to a heavy downpour. From the beginning of the month until October 19, Hyderabad received 142.8 mm of rain, compared to the normal mark of 84.4 mm, with a 69% departure.

The north zone bore the brunt of monsoon fury, with areas such as Quthbullapur and Kapra receiving significant excess rainfall. According to TSDPS data, while Rajendranagar and other areas experienced excess downpour, Musheerabad is the only area that has experienced normal rainfall since the start of the monsoon.

Weather Forecast

The IMD-Hyderabad predicted that rain would continue to fall in Hyderabad for the next three days. While light rain (2.50 mm to 15.50 mm) is expected in Serilingampally, Moosapet, Charminar, Hayatnagar, and Gajularamaram, heavy rain is expected in Khairtabad, Secunderabad, Amberpet, Malakpet, Chandrayangutta, Yousufguda, and Jubilee Hills.
