Telangana: Yadadri Temple given ‘Green Place of Worship’ award by IGBC

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) has awarded the ‘Green Place of Worship’ award to Telangana’s famous spiritual capital, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Yadagirigutta, for the years 2022 to 2025.

G Kishan Rao, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority, stated in a statement that the temple received the award for meeting 11 standards.

“There are preservation of the 13th Century Swayambhu Temple (self-manifested) deity untouched in the cave; rock preservation outside the temple premises; and innovative air-conditioning design that had 100 percent centralized air-conditioning and ducting designed without affecting the temple walls” the officer explained.

The innovative daylighting access into the main temple via a sun pipe was the main factor that earned the temple a ‘platinum rating.’ At the triple height, it can draw natural light.

The continuous supply of fresh air ventilation and exhaust systems, net windows across four orientations allowing cross ventilation, and the fact that the main temple and its components were built entirely in Krishna Sila, reducing heat and load on the AC system were also factors.

Other features of the area considered for the award included extensive greenery covering more than 40% of the total site area to address the heat island effect, a 14 lakh capacity pond for devotees, clean drinking water availability, and parking space for devotees and shuttle service facilities.

KT Rama Rao (KTR), Minister of Urban Development, expressed his delight at the temple’s award. He also praised Telangana’s chief minister, saying, “Hon’ble CM KCR Garu has demonstrated that a blend of glorious culture/heritage & sustainable green solutions can work brilliantly.”

Along with this, the Hyderabad Metro Rail has received IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Green MRTS Certification with the highest platinum rating under the elevated stations category for its three additional metro stations in Durgam Cheruvu, Punjagutta, and LB Nagar.
