At the annual meeting of ISTA in Italy, K Keshavulu, President of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) and Managing Director of Telangana Seeds Development Corporation, emphasised the success of the Telangana model of agriculture development.
He said that Telangana had become India’s food basket in an astonishingly short period of time, with a 160% increase from 2014 to 2022. Keshavulu emphasised the importance of seeds in addressing food and nutritional security, particularly in light of climate change and the problems given by the world’s fast rising population, which is expected to exceed 9.9 billion by 2050.
He emphasised the importance of promoting equitable economic possibilities for this increasing population along the agricultural supply chain. ISTA, with a broad membership representing various countries and sectors, seeks to develop standard seed testing processes and promote quality seed access for farmers globally in order to meet food and nutritional security goals. To promote seed technology and access, the association works with international organisations such as the Food and Agricultural Organisation.
