Telangana is on its way to having its first women’s university when the State government issued a government order on Monday to establish the first Telangana Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (women’s university) by revamping the existing Koti Women’s College.

Sabitha Indra Reddy thanked Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao for making this a possibility. On Monday, the CM had met with officials from the higher education department at his office.

In addition, Sandeep Kumar Sultania, State higher education secretary, says the State has also decided to establish new courses and departments and to sanction both teaching and non-teaching staff in the first women’s university in the State.

In accordance with the Telangana Universities Act 1991, the government will provide financial support for the development of infrastructure and other facilities at the university. Additionally, the government has decided to transfer the assets, including the teaching and non-teaching posts at the women’s college from Osmania University’s administrative control to the women’s university.

As soon as possible, teaching and any other facilities for students and all infrastructure will be made available.

In this regard, copies of the government order were subsequently handed over to officials in the Higher Education department, and the Education Minister congratulated the officials in the Telangana State Council for Higher Education.
