Texas Runs Out Of Food Amidst Severe Winter Storm

Texas in the United States of America has been hit by a massive winter storm. While the state is being deprived of power and is experiencing severe power outages, they are now running out of food as well.

Texas Faces Food Spoils

As per the latest reports from the Texas Tribune, the state is currently facing food shortage and food spoils. This comes after the state of Texas experiences power shortage supplies across the state because of extreme weather conditions. The Texas Tribune published a story claiming that people are (reportedly) stockpiling food and it is reportedly spoiling because of no power. The report said that items are getting spoiled in the dark.

The report further said that the grocery stores across the state have shut down because of the non-availability of power in the state. Some of the supermarkets around the area are also facing the same issue.

In a local supermarket, the bottled water section was also empty in the store. The report further said that shelves which had bread and canned food also are facing short supplies because people are (reportedly) stockpiling things from pretty much every shop possible.

Similar situation is being seen in Austin as well. As per reports on Wednesday, the Target Supermarket also had to see some empty shelves and no sign additional shipments coming in are to be expected.

The Texas state schools have also halted the meal distributions to the students for the next couple of days. At the same time, fruits and vegetable crops are “frozen” because of the extreme weather conditions.

Sid Miller the Commissioner from the Texas Department of Agriculture said that the dairy farmers around the state are throwing out milk of worth $8 million because they are not able to supply it to the state dairies. He further added that people who were into livestock growing across the Texas state are also running out of stock because the natural gas is scarcely available. The extreme winter conditions killed some of the chickens and calves as they freeze to death.

Power Restores In Some Areas

As per the recent reports, the state of Texas has seen some power restoring in some of the houses and businesses. This comes after the deadly winter blast that overwhelmed the electrical supply across the state.

While the power is restored in some areas, the crisis isn’t over yet. With the food getting spoiled, some areas are also facing lack of drinking water. And some limited electricity cuts are still possible.
