Tight security in Hyderabad due to bandh over Raja Singh’s arrest

Due to a bandh call issued by Sri Ram Yuva Sena on Saturday, police higher-ups are making heavy deployments in the Goshamahal constituency.

A bandh is being called to protest the arrest and detention of Goshamahal MLA, T Raja Singh, under the PD Act.

Mangalhat, M J Market, Begum Bazaar Chatri, Siddiamber Bazaar, Jummerat Bazaar, Puranapul, and Dhoolpet are places where the Rapid Action Force, Commissioner’s Task Force, and Quick Response Teams will be deployed.

Markets will remain closed and protest demonstrations are expected at multiple locations. A holiday has been declared by schools due to the current situation.

Attempts to stir trouble will be strictly punished, police officials said, and no one will be allowed to enforce the bandh forcefully.

The developments will be monitored by senior police officials.

As a protest against his arrest and slapping the Preventive Detention (PD) Act, the Sriram Yuva Sena called the day-long bandh in the constituency.

Due to security concerns, Raja Singh has been moved from the Manasa Barrack to the Shraddha Barrack in Cherlapally Central Jail.

There has also been an increase in security in the Manasa block. The jail personnel is questioning all those meeting the MLA in the jail.

A huge protest against Raja Singh’s derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammad resulted in his arrest and imprisonment on August 25.

The PD Act was invoked against Raja Singh, a rowdy sheeter of Mangalhat Police Station, on the orders of Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand.

In addition to delivering provocative and inflammatory speeches, the suspended MLA drove a wedge between communities, which has resulted in public disturbance, the police said.

Since 2004, he has been charged with 101 criminal offenses. The police station limits of different police stations in Hyderabad were the scene of 18 communal offenses committed by him.

According to police, Raja Singh posted an offensive video against the Prophet on August 22 with the intention to provoke all sections of the population.
