To combat cybercrime, Hyderabad Police to acquire latest software and gadgets

The investigation into cybercrime will be greatly aided by the city police acquiring the latest software and gadgets required for the task.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand approved the acquisition of the necessary latest software and gadgets in order to improve the investigation into cybercrime cases.

“We are taking up capacity building of cybercrime station. It will get an instate cybercrime investigation center and we will be training police station staff to tackle cybercrimes investigation,” he said. In 2022, the city reported 2,249 cases of cybercrime.

Anand discussed topics such as crime prevention and detection, pendency clearances, enhancing visible policing, and other challenges affecting citizens at a meeting attended by officials from various wings of the Hyderabad police who presented their action plan for the year 2023.

“Significant IT upgrades such as leveraging artificial intelligence, chat bots, maintenance of digital library and deployment of enterprise system in all units of Hyderabad City Police are also in the pipeline,” he said.

The Police Commissioner directed all zonal DCPs to establish Anti-Drug Committees in all colleges within a month and by the end of the school year. H-NEW officials were instructed to keep an eye on drug manufacturing units, monitor precursor chemicals, and invoke the PD act on erring offenders and deportation of foreigners staying illegally.

Hyderabad’s crime rate remains almost unchanged from 2021

The overall crime rate in Hyderabad city remained nearly the same in 2022, with 22060 cases reported in 2022 compared to 21998 in 2021.

The number of murders decreased from 89 in 2017 to 63 in 2022, kidnapping decreased from 225 to 220, crime against women decreased from 2652 to 2524, and POCSO cases decreased from 399 to 350.

CV Anand stated that the police have ensured that crime is under control and that several steps have been initiated by all wings to maintain peace in the city. He stated that the police ensured the peaceful conduct of all major events, including festivals, meetings, and political events.
