Traders Association Disappointed With Delhi’s Unlocking System; Requests CM To Review Decision

Delhi has been showing a decline in the number of Covid 19 cases in the past couple of days. Following this, the unlocking process has begun since Monday. However, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has expressed its disappointment over the government’s move.

CAIT Expresses Disappointment Towards Delhi CM’s Decision of Unlocking

The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently ordered that in the process of unlocking Delhi, construction activities and factories will be allowed to open. And the markets would remain closed until June 7, 5 am.

Citing the same, the CAIT said that there are about 15 lakh traders in Delhi and they are still not allowed to operate their business activities. They further said that because the markets are closed, the traders have no choice but to wait for another week.

Secretary-General CAIT, Praveen Khandelwal said that without the market’s opening, the construction activities will not be able to operate. There would be a lack of building materials and other items.

He also added that even the factories will face the same issue because the raw material for production won’t be available either. It is to be remembered that construction activities, factories, and shops are synonymous with each other, Khandelwal pointed out.

CAIT Suggests Judicious Decision Making

Khandelwal added that even though Uttar Pradesh is a much larger state than Delhi and the positivity rate is also high. But still, they have allowed their markets and businesses to operate during the working hours from Monday.

He said that Delhi has a positivity rate of almost 1.5 percent and the Covid 19 cases are less than 900 per day. Still, the government has chosen to keep the markets closed and the Delhi traders are suffering because of low or no business.

CAIT also said that they appreciate the actions made by the Delhi government to ensure the safety protocols during the second wave of the pandemic, but judicious decision-making is also important. With the cases on a decline, markets could be opened with fixed timings.

He further said the Delhi government did not consult the traders nor did they consider the recommendations given by the trader’s associations.
