TRS Faces Criticism for Unfulfilled Unemployment Stipend Promise

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which promised unemployed youngsters in Telangana a monthly unemployment stipend of Rs 3,016 during the 2018 assembly elections, is now facing criticism for failing to deliver this promise as its five-year term comes to a conclusion. Unmet expectations have raised questions about the party’s commitment to its electoral platform.

In their 2018 assembly election manifesto, the TRS promised Telangana’s youth that they will receive jobless benefits. However, as the present term approaches its end, the promise remains unfulfilled. While BRS leaders claim complete devotion to their election manifesto, Chief Minister KCR’s and other party officials’ silence on the jobless benefit has aroused concerns.

Chief Minister KCR presented an extended address at the conclusion of the current monsoon session, covering different areas of the government’s performance, welfare initiatives, and criticisms of previous administrations. Surprisingly, he made no mention of the much-anticipated unemployment benefit guarantee, leaving many people in the dark regarding its status.

During the 2018 elections, the TRS made a big declaration regarding unemployment benefits. Chief Minister KCR earmarked Rs 810 crore for the scheme’s implementation in the 2019-20 fiscal year budget presentation and pledged the formation of a high-level committee comprised of IAS officers to establish program parameters.

Despite the fact that almost 30 lakh unemployed youth have been registered with the Telangana State Public Service Commission, none have received the guaranteed unemployment payment. Furthermore, the commitment to provide at least one employment per home has not been met. While several appointment notices have been sent, the slow speed of the appointment procedure has caused irritation and unhappiness among the youth.

The broken promise has prompted criticism and dismay among young people who had planned to get unemployment benefits to help them in their job search. As the five-year mark approaches, the TRS is under criticism for the gap between its promises and actual delivery, casting doubt on its commitment to tackling the state’s unemployment problems
