TRS issues notice to move privilege motion against the central minister in Lok Sabha

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) issued a notice to move a privilege motion in the Lok Sabha against the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu on Wednesday for misleading the House while responding to a question about Telangana’s proposal to increase the quantum of the reservation to Scheduled Tribes (STs).

The TRS MPs notified Speaker Om Birla that they intend to move a Privilege Motion under Rule 222 against the minister for deceiving the House in his response to a query made on March 21 on Telangana’s proposal to increase the quantum of the reservation to ST groups.

In his response, the minister denied that Telangana had made any proposals on the ST reservation.

The Telangana Government not only proposed an increase in reservations but also passed Bill No-6 of 2017 (sec 4(2) increasing ST reserves from 6.8 per cent to 10% and sent it to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, according to the notice signed by nine TRS Lok Sabha MPs.

The MPs also pointed out that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs did, in fact, provide its permission on the matter of increasing ST reservations in a letter dated December 18, 2017. They claimed that the minister’s response violated the members’ privileges.

TRS Parliamentary Party Leader K. Keshava Rao informed reporters in Delhi that the minister deliberately mislead the House by telling a lie. There is not only a proposal but also a Bill passed by the State Legislature. The ministry of home affairs has also granted its approval, he added.

TRS Lok Sabha member N. Nageswara Rao stated that this demonstrates how biased the centre is towards Telangana.

TRS MPs conduct a walkout over rising fuel prices

TRS MPs conducted a walk out in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday to protest the increase in petrol and fuel prices. During the question period, the MPs joined other parties in walking out.

TRS Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageshwara Rao further claimed that the Centre is encroaching the state’s authority and evading its obligations in matters such as paddy procurement.
