TS efforts in residential education applauded

Hyderabad: Telangana government’s efforts in residential education were widely appreciated in the UNICEF Workshop in Kolkata.

In a workshop jointly organized by UNICEF India and Pratichi Trust in Kolkata on the theme ‘Children and the State’ from August 28 to 30, Telangana and Kerala State representatives were specially invited to brief about the efforts both the governments have been putting in to improve quality and access of public education.

Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS, participated in the workshop and delivered a lecture on ‘The Telangana Model of Residential Education’ and the vision of the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for educational advancement of marginalized children under the KG-PG Mission.

Many representatives were impressed by the scale with which the State government was going ahead with the model of residential education, which not only included increasing the number of schools rapidly, but also opening residential degree colleges for young marginalised women, summer camps, and transparent recruitment of teachers of higher quality.

The list of participants included Nobel Laureate, Prof Amartya Sen, economist Jean Dreaze and many professors and intellectuals of international repute, besides UNICEF officials. (NSS)
