TS sets target to procure 40 lakh mt: Niranjan Reddy

Hyderabad: Agriculture & Marketing Minister S Niranjan Reddy today said the State government will take steps to procure about three lakh metric tons of raw rice. He said they have set a Yasangi target to procure 40 lakh mt from the farmers and set up 3,663 purchase centers. “In April, we have procured Rs 1,836-crore worth 10.38 lakh mt produce from farmers”.  He sai 9.44 lakh mt produce will be sent to millers.

The minister informed the media that FCI will purchase custom milling rice (CMR) from the rice millers. There was no need of panic for millers as the FCI has agreed to procure the produce. As much as three lakh mt raw rice will be purchased by the FCI, he stated. The State government also constituted a committee of senior officials on the issue. It will submit its report in two days and the issue will be taken to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to take a decision, the Agriculture Minister informed.

The State government will take steps to address the related issues and the rice millers should not take any hasty decision, he said. He also said 40.42 lakh mt farm produce was bought by the Civil Supplies Department and given to millers for custom milling rice. Millers are ready to give three lakh mt raw rice and the FCI has to procure it, he added. (NSS)
