TSREDCO Chairman calls on gated communities to have rooftop solar panels

Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) Chairman Y Satish Reddy urged gated communities in the state to install rooftop solar panels on their residences and other structures to save energy, stating that the state government was aggressively promoting green energy in the state.

Satish Reddy, speaking after the inauguration of a 250 kilowatt solar power plant installed at Fortune Tower in Madhapur on Friday, said Fortune Tower’s decision to prevent pollution for a better future was an inspiration to other gated communities. Fortune Tower, he said, was the first gated community in the state to have a 250 kilowatt solar power plant.

He believes that going solar should be the first step toward making gated communities safer and more environmentally friendly. He added that the State government was encouraging large residential societies to set up rooftop solar panels.

He urged gated communities to set up EV charging stations for the benefit of their members, citing an increase in the sale of electric vehicles in the state. Arekapudi Gandhi, Serilingampally MLA, REDCO Vice Chairman & Managing Director N Janaiah, and Telangana Solar Association President Ashok Goud were all present.

Recently, StreeNidhi credit cooperative Federation Limited, promoted by the State government and the Mandal Samkahyas to supplement credit flow from the banking sector, came up with plans to provide loans to install rooftop net metering solar panel units on the houses of 10,000 Self Help Groups (SHG) members across the State as part of the State government’s effort to move towards clean and green energy.

The initiative would be implemented by the StreeNidhi in collaboration with the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO). According to StreeNidhi DGM BVS Reddy, his organization has identified 300 mandals across the State for program implementation, with approximately 35 units installed in each mandal.

He stated that 14 rooftop net metering solar panel units in Ankole Camp village of Nasrullabad mandal and 22 in Thimmapur village of Birkur mandal in Kamareddy district have already been successfully installed. “Now we want to install solar panels in at least 10,000 houses of SHG members across the State. This will help them in saving not only money but also in making the environment cleaner and healthier,” he said.
