TSRTC Urges Women to Prefer Palle Velugu Buses for Shorter Journeys

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has issued a special plea to female commuters, urging them to take Palle Velugu buses instead of Express buses for shorter distances. The decision comes as a result of the overuse of Express buses for short trips, which has caused great discomfort for passengers traveling longer distances.

TSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar acknowledged in a video message the increasing demand for bus services since the commencement of the Mahalakshmi scheme, which provides free travel for women. Express buses, which are built for longer routes, are being jammed by customers traveling shorter distances, causing interruptions for people with longer journeys, according to Sajjanar.

Sajjanar explicitly requested that female passengers collaborate with TSRTC staff and consider using Palle Velugu buses for shorter rides. He also addressed concerns that some passengers were forcing staff to make unscheduled stops, resulting in longer travel times. Express buses will only stop at selected points in the future to streamline service and cut travel times.

The Mahalakshmi plan, which provides free travel for women, has boosted commuter traffic dramatically, causing the TSRTC to seek effective alternatives to optimize services. Recognizing the strain on existing infrastructure, the TSRTC announced plans to introduce 200 new diesel-powered buses during the forthcoming Sankranti festival on January 15, 2024.

The Managing Director underlined that the new buses, which included the Lahari Sleeper cum Seater, Rajadhani AC, and Express buses, will improve TSRTC’s service quality. To promote a safer and more comfortable commuting experience, the fleet will have modern amenities such as LED destination boards and a Fire Detection Suppression System (FDSS).

The TSRTC intends to launch around 2,000 new buses in the next 4-5 months as part of its larger strategy, including several categories such as Express, Palle Velugu, Lahari Sleeper cum Seater, A/C Rajadhani, and electric buses for both Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. To fulfill the public’s expanding transportation needs, the TSRTC plans to have all of these buses operating by the end of March 2024.
