Twitter Explores Adding “Tip Jar” To Tip Great Tweets; New Revenue Model

While there might be other apps to make a quick buck but Twitter seems to be joining the trend soon. As per the latest reports, Twitter is exploring the idea of letting the users pay other users for “great tweets”.

Twitter Researcher Reveals “Tip Jar” On Twitter

App researcher Jane Manchun Wong recently discovered that Twitter is exploring features which would let people tip other people for tweets. She shared images that Twitter is looking into offering a “tipping button” on user profiles.

She took to Twitter and revealed the “Tip Jar” feature on the users profile. Wong also said that when the user clicks on the button, they’ll be able to pay the users by Bandcamp, Patreon, Venmo, Cash App and PayPal.

Wong back in March also tweeted that Twitter is working towards the same feature for their another company Spaces which is a Clubhouse-like social audio room. However, Twitter hasn’t formally announced the tipping feature yet.

RIP Twitter Went Viral In February Against Monetisation

Back in February this year, Twitter faced a controversial wrath of their users when “RIP Twitter” was trending on the platform. This was after a new Twitter feature came out called “Super Follower” which would let the famous personalities charge their followers for their tweets. This would further help Twitter generate revenue.

Super Follower tool would only be beneficial for the ones who have a huge number of followers. For the ones who don’t, it wouldn’t beneficial unless they reach the targeted numbers.

During its Analysts Day virtual event, Twitter spoke about its decisions to better monetize the platform for the Creators and Publishers which can be supported directly by their audience.

Recently, Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter said that the company aims to increase its total annual revenue by more than double by the year 2023 by over $7.5 billion with at least 315 million mDAU models (monetizable daily active users).
