US Congress Questions Facebook, Google and Twitter CEOs Against Capitol Riot

Amidst the rising scrutiny amongst the audience against the social media, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently blamed former US President Donald Trump for instigating the US Capitol riots.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Blames Donald Trump For Fake News

As per the latest information, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared for the first time in front of the US Congress since the January 6 attack. At the hearing with the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the lawmakers said that the Facebook CEO should take the responsibility for facilitating the attack during US Capitol riots.

Mike Doyle, Democratic Representative said during the hearing that how it was possible for the Zuckerberg to deny any responsibility of Facebook in playing a lead role in “recruitment, execution and planning” of the US Capitol riot.

To respond to the same, Zuckerberg said that it is the responsibility of the people who break the laws and so such things. He also said that it is also about the people who spread content like that which includes the President (former) along with others. He said that the former President repeatedly commented that the elections were rigged and further encouraged people to organize.

This makes them the primary responsible for the actions.
In the opening statement, Zuckerberg said that the company strongly believes that Congress should consider making platforms which have the intermediary liability to protect certain types of unlawful content. At the same time, the company should also have the ability to practise the best ways to combat the spread of any such content.

Twitter And Google Also Face Same Scrutiny

Apart from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey are also facing the same questions related to misinformation and safety concerns via online platforms.

Twitter recently released a survey to ask the audience for the appropriate call of action towards leaders who post inappropriate content on Social Media.
