Twitter To Appoint Grievance Officer By July 11, Upholds The Right To Challenge New IT Rules

Amidst the war between Twitter and the Government of India over the New IT Rules, Twitter has informed the Delhi High Court that they will appoint a Resident Grievance Officer (RGO) soon. However, they do have the right to challenge the new IT Rules.

Delhi High Court Seeks “Clear Response” From Twitter

As per the latest reports, Justice Rekha Palli had disclosed to Twitter’s advice and asked for “clear response” else they will be in “trouble”. The bench looked for data on Twitter’s consistence with different arrangements of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (IT Rules, 2021) by the following date of hearing. The next hearing is scheduled on July 8.

On the part of arrangement of RGO under rule 4(1)(c), Twitter said it is currently making a proposal of arrangement to an occupant of India as its “interim RGO” and hopes to do as such prior to July 11, 2021.

As per the statement released by Twitter, they have posted a job profile for an RGO as an immediate worker and is in the process of selecting applications right now. Twitter will attempt in compliance with common decency to make a proposal of work to a certified individual to fill this situation inside about two months.

Twitter Informs To File First Compliance Reports By July 11

Twitter also informed the bench that they will be filing their first compliance report from May 26 to June 25 by July 11. They also said that even though they are complying with the new IT Rules, they do hold the right to challenge the “legality, validity and vires of the Rules”.

Twitter said that they have appointed Chief Compliance Officer (COO) July 6 and it has drawn in the administrations of the break CCO as an unforeseen services by means of an outsider worker for hire.

On May 31, the Delhi High Court had given a notification to the microblogging stage on notice by advocate Amit Acharya.

The notice had encouraged the high court to give bearings to the Center to pass vital directions to Twitter India and Twitter Inc to delegate an inhabitant complaint official under Rule 4 of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 immediately.
