UK Likely To Hit Another Covid 19 Wave Soon; Experts

The United Kingdom is expected to have another wave of the Coronavirus infections by the autumn this year. The Chief National Statistician predicted the same.

UK Has Regional Covid 19 Variations

Professor Ian Diamond, the head of the British Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement on Sunday that the UK is reportedly seeing regional variation in the Coronavirus infections across the country.

This comes after Professor Chris Witty, the Chief Medical Officer for England said that there are a lot of risks involved in opening up society. And Britain is strongly likely to see another increase in the number of cases sometime in future. The most probable could be in the late summer or in the autumn and winter.

Diamond said that the people really need to see and understand the “wonderful” roll out of the vaccines and how the data is moving after the rollout. At the same time, the virus isn’t going away for some time at least.

Experts Don’t Advise Lifting Restrictions Anytime Soon

Whitty in the statement said that removing the lockdown restrictions is not advisable as of now. The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said that even if they are extremely careful and optimistic about the virus, they still might see a minimum of 30,000 deaths.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on February 22 the long awaited plan to exit the lockdown. The first step was to reopen schools from March 8. The step was said to be “cautious but irreversible”.
