Under Early Bird Scheme, GHMC nets Rs 625 crore in property tax in 28 days

As a result of the Early Bird Scheme for the financial year 2023-24, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has generated Rs 625 crore in property tax in 28 days.

Building owners are eligible for a 5 percent rebate on their property tax under this program, which began on April 1 and ends on April 30. Rebates are only given on current-year taxes, not arrears.

During Tuesday alone, Rs 25.43 crore was collected and the officials anticipate that the Early Bird Scheme 2023-24 will generate more than Rs 750 crore in revenue.

Tax collection was highest in Serilingampally (Rs 78.29 crore), Jubilee Hills (Rs 63.35 crore) and Khairatabad (Rs 50.14 crore). This year, most property owners paid their taxes online.

The GHMC generated Rs 742.41 crore revenue in the financial year 2022-23, and has set a target of Rs 750 crore for this year.

To facilitate the payment of property taxes, the GHMC Citizen Service Centres (CSCs) were open on Sunday (April 23) from 10.30 am to 5 pm.

For those who wish to take advantage of this rebate, they can pay their property tax online through the My GHMC App or online at https://www.ghmc.gov.in/.

They can also pay the property tax by going to GHMC Citizen Services Centers, MeeSeva Centers, or bill collectors. The GHMC has also taken action this year against property tax defaulters and those who enter fraudulent entries in the Property Tax Self Assessment application in order to understate the property tax amount.

“We have caught hold of the ones who have entered wrong entries including plinth area, unit rate etc and took appropriate measures,” said a GHMC official.
