US dollar rises as risk appetite increases

New York: The US dollar rose in late trading as investors’ risk appetite increased.

On Tuesday, traditional safe-haven currencies such as the Japanese yen and the Swiss franc all weakened against the greenback for the day.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.16 percent at 97.9583 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro fell to US $1.1042 from the US $1.1063 in the previous session, and the British pound increased to the US $1.3037 from the US $1.2997 in the previous session. The Australian US dollar was up to the US $0.6736 from the US $0.6688.

The US dollar bought 109.49 Japanese yen, higher than 108.68 Japanese yen of the previous session. The US dollar rose to 0.9696 Swiss francs from 0.9660 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3283 Canadian dollars from 1.3295 Canadian dollars.
