Users Forced To Accept Privacy Policy on Whatsapp; Lose Functions Instead

After receiving backlash for the upcoming privacy policy, Whatsapp has said that the users must accept the privacy policy by May 15. If they fail to do so, they’d lose their accounts or have restricted functions.

Whatsapp Users May Lose Access After “Persistent Reminders”

The Facebook-owned messaging platform has more than 2 billion users and over 400 million users are from India. Whatsapp has warned that if the users fail to accept the new policy, they will eventually have to work with the app of limited functions.

In an FAQ update, Whatsapp said that they have given time to review the policies and they are continuing to remind those who haven’t reviewed the policy yet. After a couple of weeks, the reminders would get persistent. And the users will continue to have limited functions on the app until they accept the new policy.

Some of the features restricted include not being able to access chat lists but still being able to answer the incoming phone and video calls. If the users have notifications enabled then they’d be able to read and respond to the message but won’t be able to access the chat list.

However, even after limited functionality if the users don’t accept the privacy policy, they won’t be able to receive calls or notifications either. However, Whatsapp won’t delete their account.

For the last couple of weeks, Whatsapp users have been receiving notifications to provide more information about the new policy update.

Whatsapp introduced the new policy update earlier in January this year. The aim was to get the users to allow the company to share their details like contacts and other information with other platforms. However, WhatsApp cleared that the messages would still remain encrypted.
