Uttam Kumar Reddy promises 2 lakh new Jobs

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said if voted to power in next elections, the Congress Government would fill one lakh vacancies in the public sector and create another one lakh jobs in private sector through self-employment schemes within one year after coming to power. He also promised to conduct a Mega DSC to fill over 20,000 teachers’ posts.

Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday on the subject “Job Creation & Unemployment- The Great Betrayal by KCR”, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has brought huge disappointment among jobless youth by not filling up over two lakh vacancies in the last four-and-a-half years. However, he said KCR has ensured top jobs for all his family members. Of nearly 2.5 lakh vacancies, TRS Government has filled only 11,000 posts. He said nearly 300 posts are vacant in Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) itself. He said not a single post of teacher has been filled. Similarly, the backlog vacancies of SCs and STs have not been filled.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said when Congress party announced that it would provide Rs. 3,000 monthly allowance to 10 lakh jobless youth, the Chief Minister raised questions and expressed doubts over its implementation. Now, with elections round the corner, KCR himself has announced that his government would consider giving allowance to jobless youth. “Telangana became a reality due to the struggle and sacrifices made by students and youth. However, TRS Government completely neglected the jobless youth and took no measures to fill even existing vacancies. Now, with just a few months before the elections, KCR is talking about jobless youth,” he said.
The TPCC President said that the creation of jobs would be among the top priorities of next Congress Government. In the first 12 months after coming to power, the Congress Government would ensure two lakh jobs for the youth (one lakh in public and one lakh in private sectors). Similarly, he said the Mega DSC to fill over 20,000 Teachers’ Posts across the State will be conducted.

Uttam Kumar Reddy pointed out that in the Governor’s Address to the Telangana Legislature in both 2014 and 2015, the State Government had promised to create 52 lakh direct and indirect jobs through Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR). Stating that the ITIR was sanctioned by previous Congress-led UPA Government, he said that the present TRS Government failed to pursue the project with the BJP Government at the Centre and it remained a non-starter. Further, he said projects like Railway Coach Factory at Qazipet and Steel Plant at Bayyaram, which were promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, remained non-starters. These projects could have created lakhs of new jobs for the local youth, he said.

The TPCC chief said that the KCR Government has not only failed in creation of jobs in public sector, but its policies have crushed the private sector leading to cut in lakhs of jobs. He said more than 22,250 industries were shut down in Telangana after TRS came to power. Similarly, no steps were taken to revive the sick industries across the State. He said the youth, belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities were denied funds under loan-cum-subsidy scheme. Citing an example, he said of nearly 1.53 lakh minority youth who had applied for loan-cum-subsidy scheme in 2015-16, only 14,000 were sanctioned. He said no fresh applications were received by the State Government since 2015-16. He said similar is the status of other communities.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said while KCR has been making claims of increase in State’s revenues, his government was not extending the benefits of Telangana State to jobless youth. Instead, he said that TRS Government was exploring means of giving more money to contractors. (NSS)
