As per the latest reports, Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) officials refused to allow hijab-clad Muslim girls to take the BSc Nursing examination on February 10th.
According to Chandrakant Chillargi, Director of Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences, the authorities were conforming to oral orders issued by the High Court on February 10th.
Adnan Imtiyaz, a student, complained that officials were preventing girls from taking the exam. He posted a video of an examination hall in which an examiner stops girls from entering the exam hall and stands guard outside. He asks that they remove their hijab if they wish to take the examination.

BRIMS Director Chandrakant Chillargi denied the allegations that students wearing hijab were not permitted to enter the examination hall. He said the students were stopped outside the hall for a few minutes to allow examiners to check their identity cards and rule out proxy candidates. Dr Chillargi stated that the exam staff had only asked the girls to show their ID cards at the entrance because it is difficult to recognize students with their faces covered by headscarves.
Referring to the video clip that was posted to social media, the director stated that the examination hall in charge was asking outsiders who had accompanied the girls to leave the campus, and there was no infringement of any rule.
There was no exam on February 11th. Their next paper is on February 15th.
Mohammad Yusuf Raheem, a writer, and activist condemned the college administration for acting in rush. “They are acting on oral orders when they should have waited for a government order based on the court’s oral observation. Otherwise, they take years to comply with court orders,” he stated. He suspects a scheme to deny minorities access to education.
