WHO Warns of Failure Against Covid 19

He said that the alarming increase in the spread of the Covid 19 variants could be because of the ease of the public health measure, people getting tired of restrictions and inequity of the vaccine coverage.

He said that the WHO statistics show that vaccine equity is the challenge. And the world is failing. He said that more than 832 million Covid 19 vaccines have been administered and over 82 percent has gone to the high or upper middle-income countries. But the lower-income countries have received just 0.2 percent of the vaccines.

WHO chief said that the inequity within the vaccine distribution is not only a matter of moral outrage. But also is economically and epidemiologically self-defeating. The higher the transmission, the more the variants. If more variants emerge, they might also evade the vaccines.

WHO Chief Urges Nations To Donate Vaccines To COVAX

During the speech, the WHO Chief urged the nations across the globe to donate the vaccines to COVAX. He also asked to increase the vaccine production by either voluntary license or wavering certain provisions.

He also requested the nations to implement evidence based research and measures to curb the spread of the virus. He suggested to implement surveillance, contact tracing, compassionate care and supportive quarantine.
