Wildfire in southern California 25000 citizens evacuated

San Francisco:– Around 25000 citizens have been evacuated from Irvine city of southern California due to a wind-driven wildfire.

However, evacuation orders were lifted by the officials on Friday as winds were expected to decrease through the weekend.

The Red Cross has started temporary evacuation to arrange hotel rooms for wildfire evacuees who all are in need of shelter.

Two firefighters were injured on Thursday while trying to reduce the wildfire But currently, the two firefighters have been discharged from the hospital.

The fire erupted around 10:15 pm on Wednesday at a house and then it continued to grow throughout the night as Santa Ans winds spread its flames.

Around 500 firefighters, backed up by helicopters have been sent to Irvine city to stop the wildfire. The strong breeze was forecast to last into Saturday.

Utilities in heavily populated areas have begun, cutting down power has been done as a precaution to prevent more wildfires.

On Thursday, Southern California Edison had cut power to 32,395 customers, while San Diego Gas and Electric had cut power to 62,992 customers. These numbers could change significantly during the day.

The local said that by Friday afternoon 10 percent of the fire has been contained and about 6,400 acres of land has been burnt by the wildfire.

According to the National geographic area coordination Center’s latest update, about 14 million acres of land have been charred across the US during this fire season which is twice the 10 years average.

Five of the six largest fires in California’s history were reported this year.

California has also witnessed worse devastation about 4,359.517 acres of land had dried out by a staggering 9,485 fires, around 10,488 structures got damaged or destroyed and at least 31 casualties.

According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, 2020 was the largest wildfire season recorded in California state history.
