With no fresh inflows, authorities to close last opened gate at Osman Sagar

Following no inflows from catchment areas into the reservoir since the last three days, the authorities at Osman Sagar are now planning to close the last gate that was opened since September 4 together with other four gates.

The present storage capacity of the reservoir stood at 1788.75 feet (3.614 TMC) as against the full tank level of 1790 feet (3.90 TMC).

“Since a last three days there were no inflows from upstream area while the only one gate is remain opened upto one foot to release excess water into Musi River. Since there are no sufficient inflows into the reservoir, only 100 cusecs of outflow is presently feeding the Musi River. We waited so far to see if there are more rains to impact the inflow in the reservoir but nothing comes as a surprise so far. Going by the situation we will close the last opened door after due deliberations with the higher authorities,” informed a senior official deployed at the lake.

It was this period last year when the torrential rains started putting a significant impact over the storage capacities of the lakes in and around the city and eventually caused breaches in the bunds leaving dozens of people dead and displaced. Some of the bodies that washed away with the flood water on the unfaithful day of October 13 have not yet recovered.
