With no further inflows from catchment areas, the authorities lowered the crest gates of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs today leaving back merely a feet gap to make excess water keep flow down the stream while the hide and seek of showers still continue in the Hyderabad city and outskirt areas.
It was on July 10, when the authorities of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) lifted two crest gates of Osman Sagar and two of Himayat Sagar reservoir by a foot for the first time this season after witnessing a potential increase of inflows in the lakes. This has prompted the authorities to release a total 894 cusecs of water from both the reservoirs on July 10 to feed the Musi River.
After releasing a significant volume of water through both the reservoirs, the water level at Osman Sagar stands at 1786.00 feet (3.008 TMC) as against the full tank level of 1790.00 feet (3.900 TMC). The reservoir recorded 200 cusecs of inflows on Tuesday while the authorities have released 208 cusecs of water by lifting the 2 gates by a foot.
Similarly, the water level at Himayat Sagar remains close to crest gates with present storage capacity is 1760.50 feet (2.363 TMC) as against the full tank level of 1763.50 feet (2.970 TMC). On Tuesday the reservoir received 325 cusecs of inflows while the authorities pump out atleast 340 cusecs of the water by lifting 2 gates up to 0.6 feet.
However, no substantial inflows are further recorded in both the reservoirs on Tuesday except the regular inrush for which the authorities keep on lifting the door to half a feet only to reduce the load over the lakes. Meanwhile, the authorities of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) – who are supervision both the reservoirs, are still at vigilant as further rains may attract reopening of crest doors given the fact that the monsoon has just begin to open the account and yet to complete the full season of four long months.
