“You Are Not Properly Investigating The Matter”; SC to UP Government Regarding Lakhimpur Kheri Violence

In the recent update for the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the UP government to inform the court of the people who have been named in the FIR. Along with the status of their arrest.

SC Expresses Concerns Over Investigation Of The Lakhimpur Kheri Violence

As per the latest reports, a bench headed by the Chief Justice N.V Ramana and comprising Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli asked the UP’s Additional Advocate General Garima Parshad regarding the developments in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. They asked her for the names of the people who are accused of the accident and if they have been arrested or not.

The counsel further informed the government that their main concern is that they are not investigating the matter properly. Following this, Parshad described the Lakhimpur Kheri incident as “extreme, unfortunate”. Responding to the same, the bench said that they also feel the same.

The bench further directed her to provide immediate medical assistance to the mother of the victim who was killed in the accident. A lawyer had previously informed the bench that the mother is in shock of the loss of her son and her condition was critical. The bench asked Parshad to get her admitted to a nearby government hospital.

SIT Has Been Appointed To Probe The Case; Parshad to SC 

During the hearing, Parshad informed the bench that the UP government has already appointed SIT to conduct the probe into the case. A judicial commission of inquiry has also been ordered into the violence. The top court further asked her to get the information associated with the incident.

This includes the details of the person heading the judicial inquiry into the matter and further advancements made in the PILs filed at the Allahabad High Court, regarding the same.
