Vienna: No less than 14 individuals were arrested after several police raids were conducted in connection to the shootings in the Austrian capital of Vienna that took the lives of four people not long ago, the media announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said the 14 individuals connected to the 20-year-old shooter Kujtim Fejzulai, who had been released from prison last December, were arrested in the Vienna region, St Polten town and Linz city, the BBC announced.
Fejzulai was shot dead by the police as he shot at passers-by on Monday night close to the Seitenstettengasse synagogue at a city center region.
Nehammer stated Fejzulai had uploaded a photo on his Instagram account prior to the attack, showing himself with two weapons that he is thought to have utilized.
Nehammer said that despite the fact that there was no sign of the involvement of a second attacker, yet the possibility could not be ruled out immediately.
In the manhunt, Helicopters kept on flying overhead in Vienna as hundreds of police fanned out across the capital on Tuesday.
With pockets of the center still cordoned off as the police manhunt began, the government asked Vienna citizens to stay in their homes and avoid every public place or public vehicle. The interior minister said students would not be required to go to class on Tuesday.
Reinforcements have been brought in from neighboring states, as indicated by a police representative, and not less than 1,000 officials are involved in the hunt, as states on Austria’s borders increased their security checks at their frontiers.
In the interim, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz confirmed that the four casualties were an older lady, an elderly man, a young man, and a waitress, while 22 individuals were additionally injured, as reported by the BBC.
Huge numbers of security personnel are still guarding sensitive locations, including a region close to the opera house, one of the locations of attack. Kurz stated that as police focused on an anti-terror operation, the army would assume control over the security of major buildings in Vienna.
He stated that the police has identified a sum of six crime scenes in the region.
Three days of national grieving began in Austria on Tuesday, with flags flying at half-mast.
The Vienna shootings came days after a line of recent terror attacks in France.
