3rd Rappelling World Cup to be held in Telangana

The third Rappelling World Cup will take place from September 30 to October 4 at the beautiful Gayatri Falls near Mankapur village in Adilabad district’s Ichoda mandal. Telangana is hosting the World Cup for the first time.

There will be representatives from more than 30 countries participating in these competitions. These matches are likely to be broadcast on 33 TV channels around the world. A waterfall rappelling involves jumping with a rope from the top to the bottom (straight point). This competition is held in many countries around the world as part of adventure tourism.

Due to COVID-19, these competitions are being held one year after they were last held. In 2019 and 2020, two World Waterfall Rappelling Competitions were held at 420 feet Katika Falls in Arakuloya, AP.

According to Ranga Rao, founder of the Waterfall Raplimp World Cup Organizing Committee, these competitions are jointly organized with the Telangana Government, Tourism Department, and ITDA.

For the first time, Telangana will host this mega event in two categories. Application submissions have already begun and the orientation program is in progress.

K Ranga Rao said that extensive arrangements are being made for the program to be a success by conducting a trial run as soon as possible.

Gayatri Falls offers various types of rappelling at its 330 feet high. Participation is open to men and women between the ages of 17 and 50. Those aged 50 to 70 are also eligible to participate. The maximum number of members on each team is six, both males and females. Participation is limited to 10 teams.

The first three teams in both categories will receive medals, participation certificates, and cash incentives. This event will feature more than 30 teams from national and international levels.

It is planned that 26 world records will be set in waterfall rappelling under the guidance of K Ranga Rao, who has 31 years of experience in this field. In order to ensure the safety of the team, the waterfall was visited 20 times by the team.
