88 IIT Roorkee Students Test Positive For Covid 19; Staff To Run Tests

Amidst the rising covid cases all across the nation, nearly 88 students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district have tested positive for the coronavirus.

IIT Spokesperson Ensures Strict Following of the Covid Guidelines

IIT Spokesperson, Sonika Shrivastava confirmed the new of 88 students testing positive for the coronavirus. For now, they have been shifted to the Ganga hostel within the IIT campus.

Ganga hostel has been converted into the special Covid Care Centre.

Shrivastava said that the students have been kept under observation of the Haridwar doctors. As of now, five hostels have been sealed.

She said this has not stooped the online classes of the institute. She further ensured that everyone is strictly following the Covid guidelines issued by the state government.

Uttarakhand Doon School Put Under Restricted Area

As per the latest reports, the Doon school in Uttarakhand has been put under the category of restricted area. This comes after twelve students from the 9th grade tested positive for Coronavirus.

Dehradun DM Ashish Srivastava said that the entry and exit of the school has been sealed. He said that they are strict about the Covid restrictions and RT PCR tests are being conducted for both teachers and the administrative staff.

Students who tested positive for the Covid 19 have been put under quarantine within the school premises. They are trying to trace the origin of infection in the school.

Uttarakhand’s coronavirus tally has reached over 1.04 lakh with 1,109 new cases in the last 24 hours. The mountain state has reported 98,444 recoveries so far, out of which 185 people were discharged yesterday. 1,741 people have succumbed to the contagion so far in the state with five deaths in the last 24 hours. As per the latest update, Uttarakhand has 919 active covid cases.
