Akbaruddin Owaisi Questions White Paper on Telangana’s Finances

AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has expressed worry about ‘discrepancies’ in the white paper presented by the Congress-led state administration, which indicated Telangana owed Rs 6,71,757 crore. Akbaruddin Owaisi underlined that giving contradictory signals about the state’s financial condition may discourage businesses from investing.

Akbaruddin Owaisi claimed that the government ‘conveniently’ used numbers from several sources and accused officials for ‘bungling’ the figures. According to the government’s white paper, the state has a debt of Rs 6,71,757 crore, with debt payments taking a considerable amount of tax receipts.

The white paper has been criticized, with BRS member T Harish Rao labeling it “full of mistakes” and accused it of blaming the former administration. T Harish Rao claimed that the previous administration made huge investments in asset building. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy defended the white paper, claiming that its goal was not to offend anyone but to inform the public. The administration intends to solicit AIMIM’s recommendations for improving Hyderabad and addressing the state’s financial issues.

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy raised the Civil Supplies Corporation’s loss of Rs 11,000 crore and debt of Rs 56,000 crore during the debate. The sinking of the Medigadda barrage as part of the Kaleshwaram Project was described as “criminal negligence.” An investigation is planned to determine who is responsible for the badly conceived and built barrage.

The opposition, particularly the BJP, questioned the Congress government’s ability to keep its electoral promises in light of the state’s difficult financial status. The white paper has sparked debate, with parliamentarians expressing various views on its accuracy and aim.
