Asaduddin Owaisi criticizes Centre, holds it responsible for communal violence

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi spoke about the Jahangirpuri clashes that occurred in the national capital and has alleged that the union government is responsible for the communal violence.

In Delhi, law and order is the responsibility of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and since Amit Shah became the Home Minister, there have been a series of violent incidents, he said.

“The government wanted the violence to take place, so it did. Armed people are openly moving with weapons and shouting provocative slogans. Modi’s government is to blame for violence in Delhi and elsewhere,” he said while asking the Delhi police why they allowed the procession in Jahangirpuri even though the organizers failed to secure the required permits.

“There were swords, daggers, pistols, and lathis carried by people. Was the police blind? Were they unaware of the weapons carried by the mob? Were they just a mute spectator or blind?” Owaisi asked, questioning why participants carried weapons, raised provocative slogans in religious procession and hung saffron flags on mosques.

Owaisi, in response to a question,  said the events were planned beforehand and that the government choose to remain silent.

He said that if anyone breaks the law, action should be taken against them. Delhi’s government and the BJP government are conducting biased investigations and only members of the Muslim community are being arrested and blamed. He also demanded an enquiry by a sitting judge.

Wherever there is violence reported, the state government is responsible. If a judicial inquiry is ordered or if an inquiry commission is established for probe, the truth will come out, he said, adding that several enquiry commissions noted that if a State government wants a riot, it will happen; otherwise, it won’t.

The MP for Hyderabad has also criticized the demolition of homes of poor people on charges that they were involved in riots.

He said that the courts should be allowed to pronounce judgments. It cannot be done by the Chief Minister. “Power does not last forever. Today you will be in power, tomorrow you will not. Is the Chief Minister now a judge? Collective punishment is illegal,” he added, asking whether it is legal to demolish houses.
