Budget 2023: Telangana prioritizes welfare

Dalit Bandhu, Aasara Pensions, Kalyana Lakshmi, Tribal Welfare, BC Welfare, toddy tappers welfare, Atma Gourava Bhavans for BCs, and so on are just a few of the welfare programs in the state.

Only a few states can compete with the country’s youngest state in terms of implementing welfare programs or making budgetary allocations for the effective implementation of such programs.

During his interaction with the Finance Commission in 2019, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao categorically stated, “Hum sarkar chala rahe hai.. vyapaar nahi” (We are running a government, not a business entity),’ recalled Finance Minister T Harish Rao during his Budget presentation in the Assembly here on Monday.

Previously, successive governments extended Rs 200 monthly pension. The Telangana government increased Aasara pensions from Rs 200 to Rs 2016 after the state was formed. This Budget, Rs 12,000 crore was proposed towards Aasara pensions.

A brainchild of the Chief Minister, Dalit Bandhu is a revolutionary welfare scheme for the socioeconomic uplift of Dalits. Under the scheme, the state government will provide a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to each Dalit family.

The Telangana government is implementing a one-of-a-kind welfare scheme called Kalyana Lakshmi to assist the poor in performing the marriages of their daughters.

The State government has provided Rs 10,416 crore in assistance to the 12.46 lakh beneficiaries since its inception. The Telangana government is dedicated to the welfare of women and children.

As a result, many schemes were being implemented on a large scale for the welfare of women and children in the State.
