Centre’s discrimination towards Telangana to be brought up in Parliament by TRS

The TRS (now BRS) is preparing to challenge the Central government in Parliament over the discrimination meted out to Telangana in terms of allocation of funds and projects, as well as cuts being imposed on borrowings.

With the winter session of Parliament set to begin on Wednesday, TRS (BRS) President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has directed party MPs to expose the BJP government’s failures on all fronts while also questioning the discrimination against Telangana State.

In a meeting with party MPs on Monday night, the Chief Minister directed them to raise one issue every day in Parliament and question the BJP government on why none of the promises made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act – railway coach factory in Kazipet, steel plant in Bayyaram, tribal university, IIM, and others – had been fulfilled even after eight years.

The Centre has yet to resolve river water disputes and finalize Telangana’s share of the Krishna and Godavari rivers. He even wondered if the Centre wasn’t addressing the problems on purpose.

During the Parliament’s 16-day session, MPs will also discuss pending funds for Telangana, including NITI Aayog recommendations, as well as the 13th, 14th and 15th Finance Commissions.

Since the Centre intends to introduce over 20 different bills in the upcoming session, the Chief Minister has asked MPs to thoroughly study them and question any injustice done to the State by passing them in Parliament.

It was also further reported that the central government is trying to disturb Telangana in grants and contributions in a variety of ways. As a result of this, the state government is facing an additional financial burden. It should be noted that the Center only approved a grant of Rs 85 crore in October.
