Clay Khairatabad Maha Ganapati in Hyderabad to be 50 feet high

This year, the famed Khairatabad Maha Ganapati will be made of clay and will provide darshans to devotees in the form of Pancha Mukha Lakshmi Ganapati will be 50 feet tall.

A model of the Maha Ganapati was released on Monday by members of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samithi. Raj Kumar of the Samithi said this year, the Pancha Mukha Lakshmi Ganapati was decided because Covid has caused pain. In addition, he said, “It would definitely be beneficial for devotees to have Goddesses Lakshmi.”.

According to the Supreme Court ruling, clay idols would be used instead of plaster-made idols immersed in water bodies.

Along with the 50-foot clay idol, the Samithi member said, the left side will have Sitra Trishakti Maha Gayatri Devi and the right side will have Sitra Shanmukha Subramaniam Swamy. There are still 68 days before Ganesh Chaturthi, so organizers are preparing by doing ‘Karra puja’.

Chaturthi, which falls on August 31, marks the beginning of this year’s Ganesh Utsav. A 40-foot tall idol was on display the previous year. There are lakhs of devotees who attend the 11-day festival in honor of the Khairatabad Ganesh idol, one of the most popular in the country. Vijayawada was the source of clay and raw material for the Samithi. In an interview with Raj Kumar, Shilpi Rajendran assured Raj that even at 50 feet, the idol would be strong.

There has been a shipment of soil from Rajasthan; it will be mixed with clay. In this way, the idol would be protected from cracks. For the preparation of the idol, about 30 tonnes of steel will be required.

A specially designed trolley will carry all three idols into Hussainsagar on immersion day. Rather than immersing the idols, water will be sprinkled on them to melt them,” said S Raj Kumar, organizer of Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee.
