COVID-19: Concern raises in Hyderabad due to spike in infections in China

In Hyderabad, the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in China is raising concern amongst the general public. People should exercise caution, according to experts.

Although the cause of the increase in COVID cases in China is unknown, it is thought that the new sub-lineage of the BA 2 omicron variant is to blame. In England, the new sub-lineage is leading to an increase in COVID cases and hospitalizations.

Infections forced China to shut down

Currently, the rise in infections in China has forced the country to revert to mass city shutdowns. According to reports, as part of its COVID Zero policy, the country isolates all virus cases, including those in the community.

According to the city’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam, approximately 300,000 Covid-19 patients and their close contacts in Hong Kong are now under home quarantine. The city chief also stated that if the number of cases continues to rise at the current rate, it will be difficult for authorities to keep up.

COVID-19 situation in Telangana

On Thursday, Telangana recorded 75 cases of Covid-19. With this, the total number of cases recorded in the state to date is 7,90,574. On Thursday, the death toll stood at 4,111, with no new casualties.

A total of 82 patients have been declared recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,85,647. There are currently 816 patients being treated. The recovery rate is 99.37 per cent, with a fatality rate of 0.52 per cent.

A total of 23,061 samples were tested on Thursday. Telangana has now tested 3.39 crore samples and has reached a sample testing rate of 9.11 lakh per million population.

The GHMC recorded the most number of new cases among the districts, with 34, followed by 6 in Medchal Malkajgiri. Aside from the GHMC, districts with the most cases included Mancheriyal (4 cases) and Wanaparthy (4 cases).
