Delhi govt’s move against ‘photo culture’ in offices received laurels

In a most welcoming move against a ‘photo culture’ in the government offices, the Delhi Government made an announcement banning pictures of political leaders in offices barring Bhimrao Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh, the leaders who played an important role during the freedom struggle.

During the Republic Day program in Delhi today, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made the announcement stating that “Henceforth, no picture of any political leader will be allowed to hang in government offices except Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the father of the constitution and the revolutionary Bhagat Singh. No other picture, not even the Chief Minister of Delhi, would appear in offices from now on.”

Kejriwal moved on saying, “The Delhi Government is on the path to fulfilling the dreams of both the defining leaders of the India freedom struggle who dreamed of refining the Indian society and their vision will forever inspire us all.”

“No government in the past 75 years has even tried to follow the path of Dr. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh,” he said adding that “The Babasaheb Ambedkar introduced a quality education in India but successive governments have failed miserably in implementing the same in a letter and spirit. Now, the Delhi government is prudently working to shape the dream of the father of the constitution.”

Meanwhile, the move announced by the Delhi Government against hanging photos of political leaders in government offices has been well received by the people and activists of other states, especially in Telangana.

Welcoming the Delhi government’s move Moulana Taraq Quadri, the President All India Majlis Inquilab-e-Millat (AIMIM-I), said, “It is a high time to emulate the same in Telangana where most of the government offices carrying the photos of KCR and KTR. It became a trend to hang pictures of leaders ruling the state while ignoring those who played a crucial role during the freedom struggle. In some offices in Telangana, even the picture of Gandhiji and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was replaced with the leader of the ruling party.”

“Only on the occasion of independence day and republic day celebrations, pictures of Gandhi Ji and Netaji were seen placed before the offices to pay them respect for a short moment while the walls of officials’ chambers inside the government offices glare with the pictures of leaders from the ruling government. This trend must be stopped even in Telangana from now onwards,” he contended.
