Delhi Police files FIR over Greta’s “toolkit”, her unfazed response to the threat

Following her tweets supporting the active farmers’ protest of India, Greta Thunberg’s posts have been charged as attempts to “promote enmity between groups” in a case filed by the Delhi Police. However, the young climate campaigner seemed unperturbed by it and posted a tweet reiterating that she “still” stands with the farmers as “no amount of threats can change that”.

Prior to this, media outlets had reported, based on police sources, that the Delhi Police filed an FIR against Greta, but the cops later said the First Information Report hasn’t mentioned anyone’s name in specific, not even Greta. As per the FIR, conspiracy charges are placed on posts and tweets for “promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language… and acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony.”

The move was taken after international celebrities and influential people spoke up in support of the protesting farmers. The global attention on the chaos and disturbance in the country over the clash between the government and farmers ignited post Rihanna and Greta Thunberg’s tweets.

In the latest development story, the FIR highlighted the “toolkit” posted by Greta where she mentioned ways to support the farmers’ protests. The Cyber Cell is probing other tweets as well.

The news hardly affected Greta as she got vocal over her firm stance again with a tweet saying, “I still #StandWithFarmers and support their peaceful protest. No amount of hate, threats or violations of human rights will ever change that. #FarmersProtest.”

Greta’s first tweet read, “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India”, sharing the same CNN story earlier shared by Rihanna on her Instagram account captioning, “Why aren’t we talking about this?!”

The Swedish climate campaigner today shared a controversial “toolkit” in her tweet which enlists 7 ways to give a shoulder to the protest. The Delhi Police called this a “conspiracy by an organized overseas network” for provoking the farmers to lead their protests.

She had shared a similar document on Tuesday night but deleted it later, citing that the new one contained updated information. In one of her advice, Greta also suggested organizing protests close to the Indian embassy on 13th and 14th February to show support to the farmers.

This, however, did not go well with the Indian government as it surprisingly took cognizance of the international attention and said that people need to ascertain all facts “before rushing to comment”, joined by other BJP leaders and ministers who questioned Rihanna for remarking on India’s internal affairs.

A few Bollywood actors and cricketers too backed the government and widely shared the hashtag “IndiaTogether”. Their tweets were heavily criticized on social media as each held a very close similarity to the other with many users calling it a “copy, paste” regime.
