Distress Over Parliament Impersonation: Rajya Sabha Chairman Takes Stand

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed deep distress over an event in which a TMC MP impersonated him in the parliament complex while a Congress MP videotaped the act. He made it clear that he will not allow any insults to Parliament or the position of vice president.

Chairman Dhankhar declared during the Rajya Sabha session that the imitation incident and its recording were an affront to the honor of the post of vice president, the farmers, and his own community. He stated that it is his responsibility to safeguard the House’s honor and that such events will not be permitted.

“I’m not bothered if anyone insults Jagdeep Dhankhar, but I can’t stand it if I can’t defend the honor of my position.” “It is my duty to protect the House’s honor,” Dhankhar stated.

He urged the Congress party, especially Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, to consider the issue and expressed his disappointment at the lack of a response to such blatant disdain for the office and the communities affected. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned three times, with the Chairman swearing to maintain Parliament’s dignity.

The episode emphasizes the importance of parliamentary etiquette and respect, and such actions are taken seriously because of their possible impact on the legislative process’s integrity.
